Luca Aiello, Research Scientist at Yahoo Labs, London, got his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Torino, Italy in 2012 and he has been a Research Scientist at Yahoo Labs for 4 years, first in Barcelona and now in London. He conducts interdisciplinary research in social media, computational social science, and urban informatics through quantitative analysis of big data. At Yahoo he works with production teams of Flickr and Tumblr to build social recommender systems at scale. He has collaborated actively with several academic institutions worldwide including Indiana University, University of Southern California, KAIST, and more recently Stanford University in conjunction with whom he organized the Social Informatics conference in Barcelona in 2014.
